My submission for the Twisted Innocence contest on [link]

The theme was to do a twisted innocent tale of a fairy tale, and since there seemed to be a lot of Little Reds and Alices, I wanted to do something new... I read a LOT of fairy tales, and one of the ones that seemed to make NO sense was THE LITTLE MATCHGIRL. Ok, she basically freezes herself to death with hallucinations. Nice. Good one, Hans. In the end, she dies, and goes off to heaven with the spirit of her grandmother. So, I figured: why not make her a pryomanic? Thus:

""Someone is dying....." said the little girl..... She suddenly stuck the rest of the bundle (of matches)... "

- The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen

(I cut those sentences from the story in the book 'A Treasury of Fairy Tales' by Transedition Books, 1995, they're not written in that order)

My take on it is that she burns the matches, becomes obsessed, and accidentally lights herself on fire (she doesn't notice), but she doesn't burn, it's more like the Human Torch. Then, when the last one burns out, she sets off the make the world burn with her.... Dun dun dun!

yeah.

So, all character and story rights to Hans Christian Andersen

The quote from the story is from A Treasury of Fairy Tales, by Transedition Books, 1995

And yeah, the title comes from the Dark Knight

Hope you like!!! Thanks!!!!

Your characters always have such hard lives. I kinda want to gather them all up in a giant family hug and say "It's okay she doesn't REALLY mean it. She just likes creepy things, and you just happened to be in the crosshairs of her scary imagination." then we'd all go out for afternoon tea and a stroll in the nearest lovely rose garden. :D
